z3’s landing page: from aurora to terminal
Continuing the saga of the phone that won’t fold: its landing page finally stopped pretending to be a startup.
The full writeup tells it better, but the arc is: the original page was the AI default (near-black, aurora blobs, glass cards, gradient headline — every element statistically likely, none of it chosen). Then six better directions, each executed with real discipline: newspaper, instrument panel, TV test card, and all still costumes. The one that clicked was the page talking the way the machine already talks: session output. Monospace text structured as a session: a curl status line, a cat index.txt, a live z3-status readout.
So now the uptime and battery on the homepage are read live off the device while you look at them, every fifteen seconds instead of from a screenshot. Light theme is Solarized sepia, dark is cold green-grey; press T to flip, and it remembers.
The line I’m keeping: “Slop is the absence of visible decisions. Costume is the decision to be someone else.” Every version that didn’t make it is archived, the six costumes included, and honestly worth a look on their own.
With additional pink, and new green lines too!
